Tutoring & Academic Support accepts applications for undergraduate​ student employees on a rolling basis. We are now considering applications for Spring PLUS Leaders and Learning Assistants, and a limited number of tutoring and desk assistant opportunities. PLUS Leader

Starting Salary: $14.00 per hour

Hours: Approximately eight hours per week*

(3hr Attending Lectures) + (2hr Facilitating Sessions) + (2hr Preparation) + (1hr Faculty/Team Meetings)

PLUS Leaders facilitate weekly review sessions for specific courses during which they encourage students to collaborate with their classmates to tackle problems and discuss the concepts covered during lecture. In the sessions, leaders foster discussion to enhance critical thinking, encourage students to use course resources, and demonstrate learning techniques to supplement lectures and assignments.

In order to support a course, PLUS Leaders must have earned an “A” in the course at Georgia Tech (Transfer / AP Credits Not Eligible).

Responsibilities
  • Attend all lectures for the selected course and get their lecture attendance card signed
  • Plan and facilitate two regularly scheduled one-hour study sessions per week
  • Meet regularly with assigned PLUS Faculty Member
  • Send session reminder announcements and submit session plans before each session
  • Track and submit attendance data
  • Accurately track hours worked and complete timesheets accordingly
  • Complete required Peer Tutor Training course in the first semester of tutoring
  • Attend all trainings and biweekly team meetings
Minimum Qualifications
  • Georgia Tech undergraduate student in Good Academic Standing and Good Judicial Standing
  • Have completed at least one full semester at Georgia Tech
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred
  • Be eligible to support the selected course. Grades will be pulled at the end of each semester to ensure requirements are met.
  • Be available to attend all lectures for the selected course and facilitate two one-hour study sessions per week
  • Have a reference (faculty, advisor, or TA preferred)
  • Be available to enroll in the training course, CETL 2001: Fundamentals of Peer Tutoring, on Tuesdays at 11:00 – 11:50 AM during the first semester of tutoring
  • *Federal Work Study students may not exceed their award amount for the semester.

Learning Assistant

Starting Salary: $14.00 per hour

Hours: Approximately 6 hours per week*

(3hr Attending Class) + (1hr Preparation) + (1hr Office Hour) + (1hr Weekly Meetings)

Learning Assistants (LAs) are students who are prepared to provide support for student learning in an interactive classroom environment. LAs help facilitate active learning and collaborative instruction in lecture, recitation, studio, and/or lab. For more information, please visit: LA Courses Supported.

In order to support a course, LAs must have earned an “A” in the course at Georgia Tech or have faculty approval (Transfer / AP Credits Not Eligible).

Responsibilities
  • Work directly with students, helping make courses more student-centered using interactive techniques with an emphasis on exploratory questions inside the classroom
  • Meet weekly with course instructor to discuss upcoming assignments, activities, labs and common student difficulties
  • Hold office hour
  • Take 1-credit pedagogy course on interactive educational techniques (CETL 2001) during their first semester as a LA
  • Be available to attend all components of the course required by the instructor
  • Be available to work 6-8 hours a week.
  • Attend all trainings and LA semester meetings
Minimum Qualifications
  • Georgia Tech undergraduate student in Good Academic Standing and Good Judicial Standing
  • Have completed at least one full semester at Georgia Tech
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred
  • Be eligible to support the selected course with an A grade or support from the instructor
  • Be available to meet with the instructor once a week
  • Be available to attend all components of the course required by the instructor
  • Be available to see students for weekly office hours
  • Be available for assisting in grading, as needed
  • Have a reference (faculty, advisor, or TA preferred)
  • Be available to enroll in the training course, CETL 2001: Fundamentals of Peer Tutoring during the first semester of tutoring

Drop-In Tutor

Starting Salary: $14.00 per hour

Hours: 5 to 15 hours per week

Drop-In Tutors are student employees through Tutoring and Academic Support that work in a variety of “drop-in” tutoring centers across campus. These centers include Morning Drop-In, Physics Help Desk, AE Drop-In, and BME Focus. All of our tutors participate in a training and certification program focused on developing practical and transferable skills for their future careers.

In order to support a course, Drop-In Tutors must have earned an “A” in the course at Georgia Tech (Transfer / AP Credits Not Eligible).

Responsibilities
  • Work a minimum of 5 hours per week in one of the drop-in centers
  • Track hours worked and complete timesheets accordingly
  • Complete required Peer Tutoring Training course in the first semester of tutoring
  • Attend all trainings and biweekly meetings
Minimum Qualifications
  • Georgia Tech undergraduate student in Good Academic Standing and Good Judicial Standing
  • Have completed at least one full semester at Georgia Tech
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred
  • Be eligible to support the courses you are interested in. Grades will be pulled at the beginning and end of each semester to ensure requirements are met.
  • Be available to tutor at least 5 hours per week
  • Have a reference (faculty, advisor, or TA preferred)
  • Be available to enroll in the training course, CETL 2001: Fundamentals of Peer Tutoring, on Tuesdays at 11:00 – 11:50 AM during the first semester of tutoring

EXPLORE Tutor

Starting Salary: $14.00 per hour

Hours: 4-8 hours per week*

In order to support a course, Explore Tutors must have earned an “A” in the course at Georgia Tech (Transfer / AP Credits Not Eligible).

Responsibilities
  • Work a minimum of 4 hours (2 shifts) per week in the Explore tutoring lounge
  • Track hours worked and complete timesheets accordingly
  • Complete required Peer Tutoring Training course in the first semester of tutoring
  • Attend all trainings and biweekly meetings
Minimum Qualifications
  • Georgia Tech undergraduate student in Good Academic Standing and Good Judicial Standing
  • Have completed at least one full semester at Georgia Tech
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred
  • Be eligible to support either [CHEM 1211K and 1212K] or [MATH 1551, 1552, and 1553 (1554 and 1564 are eligible to support 1553)]. Grades will be pulled at the end of each semester to ensure requirements are met.
  • Be available to tutor at least 4 hours per week
  • Have a reference (faculty, advisor, or TA preferred)
  • Be available to enroll in the training course, CETL 2001: Fundamentals of Peer Tutoring, on Tuesdays at 11:00 – 11:50 AM during the first semester of tutoring
  • Being a previous SMaRT, SHaRP, or Explore student is preferred but not required
